Reel King Mega sits somewhere between being a traditionally-themed slot based on physical slot machines, and a modern online slot with 21st-century features. When we started this review, we mentioned that it's a little difficult to put Reel King Mega into a genre. We could say that about almost any of the online slots devised by the Isle of Man-based developer Red Tiger Gaming, who don't like to be pigeon-holed. They consider themselves to be ultra-modern designers who want to push the boundaries of what mobile slots and online slots are capable of, and what people should expect from playing them. The first Reel King was one of Red Tiger's first-ever releases, and so they've had time to hone their craft somewhat before returning for this sequel. In truth, it probably isn't the best slot they have to offer, but that's not an insult. Red Tiger has made some truly incredible slots, and it would be hard for anything to rival their best-known products. As there are no scatter or bonus symbols in Reel King Mega, you may be wondering how to trigger the bonus features. The short answer is that you can’t, but that doesn’t mean that the game doesn’t have anything to offer in this department - it just randomly decides when to give them to you. One such bonus is a reel modifier in the shape of a Bouncing Crown. After any spin, the Reel King’s crown might appear on the screen and bounce around the reels in any direction. There are also Colossal Symbols in this slot, which are active during the base game. Any of the symbols can land as a large 2x2 symbol on any spin, and therefore boost your chances of making a winning combination using that symbol. As there are comparatively few symbols in the slot, colossal symbols are more effective here than in other online slots we’ve played and reviewed. The main feature that this slot has to offer is, fittingly, called the Reel King feature, and triggers just as randomly as the others. Each time you spin, you may find that the background to one or more of the reels is gold as opposed to the usual plain blue-white. If all five reels turn gold at the same time, the jolly Reel King himself will put in an appearance, carrying his own one-row set of three reels. Most times this happens, you'll only be visited by one Reel King, but on occasion you may get more, up to a maximum of one for each reel.
On his mini-reel set, there are only two types of symbols - sevens and blanks. The sevens can come in red, yellow, or blue. Landing a line of sevens that don’t match awards you a prize of x2 your stake. Three blue sevens are worth 5x, three yellow sevens are worth 10x, and the top prize is three red 7s for 25x your bet. You’re guaranteed a win on your first spin. After that, all spins are free, and they’ll continue until you land on a blank. You can rack up some really good winnings here. After any win worth more than 1x your stake, you can choose to use the Gamble Feature, which will appear next to the 'spin' button. Doing so will take you to a wheel of fortune, where you can stake your current winnings against a higher prize. Reel King Mega would be a run-of-the-mill slot if it weren't for the Reel King bonus feature, which sets it apart and offers you a chance to increase your winnings dramatically.
