There are two bonus features in Wild Spartans, both of which are related to the symbols on the reels. Keep an eye on those statues either side of the frame, though - they can choose to involve themselves in your game to help you out if the mood takes them.
The first bonus feature doesn’t result in a side game of any kind; it’s just a nice inclusion in the slot, and it’s Locking Wilds. When a wild symbol lands on the reels, the spartan behind the shield will jump out at you, growl, band his shield and produce a number on its surface. The number indicates how many spins the shield will stay locked in place for. In some cases, the statues will come alive and bang their spears on the ground. Every time they do so, the number of spins the wilds stay locked in place for increases by one.
The Free Spins feature triggers when you’ve landed three of the associated bonus symbols anywhere on the reels. You’ll be awarded a number of free spins at random, and it’s again decided by how many times the statues bang their spears on the ground. It’s generally somewhere between eight and ten, although it can go higher or lower. During free spins, any wilds will stay sticky until the feature comes to an end.
The sticky wilds are the best thing about this slot for us; if you get enough of them in the right places, and they stay there for three spins or more, you're guaranteed reasonable wins on every spin until they disappear. It's not impossible to get an entire row full of them if you keep playing for long enough. The flipside to this is that in our experience it's almost impossible to find any winning lines which don't feature the wilds. The way the other symbols stack on the reels means that matching symbols rarely end up in adjacent spaces. That makes the wilds in Wild Spartans less of a bonus feature, and more the central feature of the whole slot.
